McCall Patterns - Fall 2019
3:00 PMNew pattern alert! So, let's just jump right in. Here's what I'll be buying:
Blazers have been having a moment for the last couple of years now. Then oversized blazers became a thing. So, it's a natural fashion progression that blazer dresses would be in style again. This is a big throwback style from the 80s and early 90s. I remember wearing blazer mini dresses. I actually had on a cream colored blazer mini dress one when I met my husband back 1990.
It's still a style that translates in a modern way that I don't mind revisiting.
There's a western trend going on right now. I'd like to credit Lil Nas X and his "Old Town Road" sensational hit for it.
Plus, this dress would give me a great reason to get these boots I've been stalking:
I've been wanting a sweater or sweatshirt style dress like this. Usually when I see dresses like this in ready to wear, they're always extremely short. I love the idea of creating one for myself that won't look like a tunic.
It goes without saying that I love this jumpsuit. So, I'll be sauntering around this come fall. Our falls are so mild that I won't have to wear a coat or jacket for a while and I'll be able to show off those amazing sleeves.
This is a pretty great pattern. And it looks like it'll be fun to make. I find lots of detailed topstitching so satisfying.
The top and bodysuit will make a great addition.

7997 is definitely a throwback to my college years. I remember the popularity of this type of pattern when I worked at Piece Goods Fabric store.
ReplyDeleteThose were my college years too!
DeleteThese definitely bring back memories! I really am showing my age! I love them though. That jacket is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat jacket will be so fun to make!
DeleteSuper crazy about them all and absolutely LOVE the Blazer dress. I can't wait to see your version.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be fun to revisit that style again.
DeleteAm quite disappointed. The only thing I like is the sweater dress but does one need a pattern for it? The jackets are a bit too short for comfort and warmth.
ReplyDeleteThat type of jacket is not for warmth, it's for style! It's a cute topper. And I have the benefit of living in the Deep South that during fall, I can wear that jacket, bare legs and open-toed shoes!
DeleteHi Erica, for the jumpsuit are you going to gather the hem or make it loose and wide? And the sleeves?
ReplyDeleteI have no clue. It’s not even something on my mind. I’ll figure it out when I get around to sewing it.
DeleteI wasn't sure about M7997 until I saw it as almost a jumper with a long sleeved shirt underneath. Now I can't wait for another sale! (I missed the last McCall's sale by ONE day)
