The Classic Button Up Shirt Sew-Along!
11:30 AM
The Classic Button Up Shirt has always been one of the most essential workhorse wardrobe staple in my closet. I create some version of a great white shirt at least once a year.
This year, it's Kwik Sew 3555, and I'm literally kicking myself for overlooking this amazingly drafted classic shirt for as long as I have. Sometimes, Kwik Sew patterns come across as "matronly". But they have a great selection of basics that every home sewist should have in their sewing arsenal. Basics that you can easily "zhuzh up" or hack.
Over on BERNINA's WeAllSew Blog, I've created a 3 part sew-along series where I will be guiding you step-by-step in a tutorial along with providing you with my favorite tips to successfully sew your best ever button up shirt.
Here's Part 1!

Your steps are so simple and easy to follow along that you are inspiring me to DO this. Now. Heaven knows I have enough fabric to get started. Can’t wait for Part two!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it Sunny!
DeleteExcellent! I just got my first Bernina machine and have a shirt cut out and ready to go. Lucky timing for me!
ReplyDeleteCompton your new machine! That’s so exciting! You’re going to have so much fun sewing your shirt!
DeleteThis is the quintessential must have shirt. Your instructions were clear and precise. Great job!!

Thank you Kimberly!
DeleteI really love how this shirt fits you under the arms. It's very feminine and the sleeves are trim. Do you alter the pattern at the armscye to customize your fit? I find mine end up looking like I'm wearing a man's (too big) shirt. As always, you have sewn it so beautifully, thank you for sharing your work. I look forward to every post.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t have to make any alterations to this shirt other than my normal lengthening. Thanks Sarah!
DeleteI really love that you gave a plus size option! I'm trying not to sleep on Kwik Sew, I didn't see this pattern! Great tip for top-stitching the pocket for precision and using the different machine feet.
ReplyDeleteThank you LaQuana!
DeleteAs a fairly new Bernina owner I've been enjoying the blog and your series on this shirt. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy! It's fun sharing something I genuinely enjoy making.
DeleteHi, Erica, I so wanted to take part in this sew-along, but the nearest Joann's --- an hour away --- didn't have this pattern. Is there another I may substitute? Thanks ever so for your advice!
ReplyDeleteJust order it online:

I hate paying full price plus shipping for any pattern not vintage! I prefer to save my bucks for rare patterns and get new ones at those amazing JoAnn sales. Do you think JoAnn in a large city will have it? I will be traveling later in the week.
