Review: McCall's 7155 | Orange You Glad It's Almost Summer Top!

12:00 AM

In a couple of months I'll be miserable when the mercury rises here in the Deep South and it's hotter than the hinges of Hell.  But for right now, I'm embracing our mid-80s temps.  It's just perfect for a strappy, flowy top like this!
I'd mentioned on Instagram that I find I have a limited amount of cute summer tops.  So it's currently my goal to fill in that wardrobe gap with tops that will work shorts and jeans.
This one is McCall's 7155.  I used view E, with the straps from view A.  I cut the size 12 and there were no adjustments needed.  It fit right out of the envelope.  I love it when that happens!
My fabric is this Firefly Orange Faux Dotted Swiss Polyester Chiffon from Mood Fabrics.  I bought it last year the same time as the Sunflower Yellow that I used for Vogue 1240.  The fabric is sheer.  But for this design, the fabric is doubled which makes it opaque.
The pattern suggested using ribbon for the straps.  Well, I could've followed suit, but I decided to created spaghetti straps instead.  I used this Grenadine Stretch Silk Georgette that I had in my stash for another project that kind of fell by the wayside.
But it came in handy for the straps and facings for this little number.  As you see, I also used French seams and narrow hems.  I used BERNINA #62 narrow hemmer.
I finished it off with my new labels c/o Dutch Label Shop.
Styling tip:  I really wanted to make this top the star of the show, because it's bright and bold and its earned the right.  I paired it with my spring staple -- my white skinny jeans.  I added a white bandana as a necktie, big gold bamboo hoop earrings (Sidenote: I wore earrings like these in the 80s when I was in high school and I still have a fondness.), leopard/zebra print sandals, and my Dooney & Bourke (Mother's Day gift from Michael).

  1. Been to Savanah in a heat wave in July. Not fun, but this should definitely help you survive. Orange is really flattering on you and it's perfect with your skinny white jeans.

  3. Did you cut this in the size that matched your measurements, or did you go down a size? I got out the tissue for this pattern last summer, but when I looked at the finished bust measurement I was afraid it was going to be huge.

    1. I went with my normal size in tops. It fits great and I was thrilled no FBA was needed. I based my size on the finished bust measurements.

    2. Thanks! Sometimes I get ahead of myself trying to predict how something will fit that I discourage myself out of making it...

    3. I find that if I go with the finished size on the pattern, it turns out good.

The Firefly Orange fabric is such a refreshing choice, and those Grenadine Stretch Silk Georgette straps add a touch of elegance. The white skinny jeans and accessories complement it perfectly.
