I follow Nina Garcia on Instagram. As I've mentioned before, Instagram is just a plethora of inspiration for me. I love it. I was scrolling one day and I saw this photo of Nina showing how she wore a blue shirt with various skirts during New York Fashion Week. I loved all of the skirts, but the Dior car wash skirt stood out the most.
Other designers also showed these skirts:

This pattern was released in 2004, and is long out of print. So, I went right on over to eBay, located it and hit that "BUY IT NOW" button. And a few days later, it was in my mailbox. Happy Dance!!! I already know this will be a "Fall Fashion Moment" for me, so I'm going to go ahead and plan for two: black wool and a wool tweed. There's no point in even acting as if one option will be enough. Y'all know how obsessive I can become over a pattern I fall in love with.
These will be coming soon!
I can’t believe they’re back already.
ReplyDeleteI'm never throwing out anything again! Patterns or clothes! I'm just going to be a pack rat! These trends cycle back around quick!
DeleteI am liking the fringe/carwash skirts as well. Haven't decided on a pattern yet. Looking forward to your version.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila!
DeleteI remember owning several patterns similar. I learned a tuff lesson when I had to replace patterns I gave away :( FIESTA ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's a lesson I keep learning over and over!
DeleteI like this trend, I am planning on making a faux suede one, more like fringed though. But now you put the tweed in my head... hmmm, I need to make a pattern for that first picture you posted :)
ReplyDeleteTweed is definitely a front runner choice for me. Good luck with yours!
DeleteThat was a fast return of a skirt style that I never tried before. Now maybe I will. Glad you found the right pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda!
DeleteI have successfully trained my husband to scout out old patterns at thrift stores. He spots them long before I do. He's even rescued whole boxes off the curb on All City Recycle days.
ReplyDeleteMany of my friends also gift me with their dead relatives' pattern stashes -- and fabric, too, but that is less welcome to me than are the patterns.
I happily pass along any duplicates, or styles that suit other sewists better than they suit me. Still, there's plenty of hours of happy playing with the "paper dolls" in my boxes and drawers. Even if I never sew them up, they are fun to look at, and dream about, and sometimes to laugh at. Keeps me from wandering the streets aimlessly, anyway.
Your husband is amazing!
DeleteI love button down shirts and fashionable skirts...this trend is a win win for me :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a perfect combination!
DeleteCan't wait for this one! Great job finding what looks like the perfect pattern!
ReplyDeleteThanks Margo B!
