It's the end of summer, and to celebrate I needed a great dress to close out the season. And what color represents sunny days than a gorgeous yellow. I picked this Sunflower Yellow Faux Dotted Swiss Polyester Chiffon from Mood Fabrics.com. It was perfect for (OOP) Vogue 1240.
This is an old pattern that was released in 2011, so there were plenty of reviews. I knew going in that the armholes were "side-boob-revealingly low". So I cut the size 10 and graded out to the size 12. Underneath all of that draping, the body of the dress is basically a shift with horizontal darts.
This poly dotted chiffon sewed and pressed as well as a silk chiffon. I was concerned about how well it would press since I was making French seams and narrow hems.
I interfaced the collar with silk organza because it was the best choice for this fabric. And I lined it with a Bemberg rayon from stash.
This is a short dress! This is the length with the addition of the three inches I added, and I love it! It's a step out of my wheelhouse, but every girl needs a cool, fun and flirty dress in their wardrobe.
This fabric was an amazing choice for this silhouette. It couldn't have been more perfect.
Styling tips: For a high-neck dress, I like my hair up and away from the face. For the make-up, I rocked winged liner and a bold lip.
My accessories were gifted from Isaac Mizrahi New York (I received no compensation for this post, just the opportunity to pick pieces from the line that suited my style). These beautiful Pearl and Gold Bee Hoop Earrings are adorable and worked perfectly with my sunny yellow dress. And they're currently on sale.
I picked the Lamis Pointed Pump in Magenta. I'd seen the yellow/magenta color combination in a wedding once and I loved how it looked together. And let me tell you... these pumps are super comfortable. The heel is 3.75" and there is cushion under the ball of the feet. At my age, I take the comfort of my feet serious! These are great pumps and I'll be wearing these often this fall!
Lovely color. You look great in this dress. Great accessorises too. Really pops! Keep up the good work.

DeleteThat's a great yellow frock and looks great on you. It's a good thing you knew to add an extra three inches to the length, I know you're tall, but wow that would have been a risky frock to wear out in public for any gal!
ReplyDeleteThere are unfortunately some great patterns that are OOP, and think the pattern companies are missing a trick by not doing re- releases or offering them as Pdf downloads.
I too like the pink/yellow combo, it makes quite a statement.
I always add length to dresses. And you are so right. It seems like the best patterns are OOP. And PDF downloads would be great. They could still make a profit without having to print them. Thanks Miss J!
DeleteBeautiful! You are such an inspiration to me, from sewing to working out to weight loss!
