I have a fixation with "Great White Shirts". I love all variations and they're a must have for my wardrobe. I wanted a crisp white statement top as a transition piece from summer to fall.
I picked McCall's 7163. And I used this Rag & Bone White Mercerized Cotton Woven from Mood Fabrics.com. This cotton woven is divine! It has no stretch, and the luster of the fabric makes it look so luxurious.
I was inspired by the Rosie Assoulin Fall 2014 white shirt. Even though mine is intentionally not a direct duplication, and probably more wearable, I still have the off-the-shoulder style with the dramatic sleeves. This is what I call a "Runway to Realway" look. Because I don't know how easy it would be to drive and raise my arms over my head in the Rosie shirt, even though that design is incredibly beautiful.
I cut the size small. I used view D and just added the elastic at the waist like view C. I didn't have to add any additional length. It sewed perfectly from the envelope.
For the elasticized neckline, there is a double casing using 1/2" elasic in each one. I love how neat it looks. I'm not a fan of when fabric looks bunched up.
I debated on which version of the sleeves to use. The elasticized opening won. Plus, I felt that they represented my inspiration look.
Styling tip: I wanted to create a polished "Boho-Chic" look. I paired my top with fitted flared leg pants (Vogue 9032) and booties. Instead of a necklace, I wore dangling chandelier earrings.
love love love! I cut mine in an xs and found it still too big for me.. I guess I am not a fan of the romantic sleeves.. Yours is definitely more wearable its that "go to" top that will fit with almost any bottom! Even cut off shorts.. Just cute cute cute!
ReplyDeleteI love the drama of the sleeves! Thanks Donna!
DeleteThis is awesome and classic! I actually have this on my Sept. sewing list!!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a quick sew! Thanks Carol!
DeleteErica...did you have to add any inches to the sleeve??? This shirt is awesome a must sew have:)
ReplyDeleteI didn't. I sewed it straight from the envelope. Thanks Lora!

ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty outfit. The shirt is a standout.
Thanks Kelly!
DeleteOnce again the envelope didn't move me but yours is brilliant and part of it is yourexcellent fabric choice . Cotton poplin is simply a beautiful fabric that these days is a little forgotten.
ReplyDeleteCotton poplin is my go to when I want a crisp white shirt. I'll be buying more to make a new button front shirt. Thanks Ines!

ReplyDeleteThanks Sheseams!
DeleteI am working on this top right now and is a beginner. The neckline has me beat. LOL I love how yours turned out.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're having problems. Sometimes we tend to overthink techniques. Maybe you should walk away and come back to it. When you re-read the instructions, hopefully they'll make a lot more sense. Thanks Cindalemeise!
DeleteThanks Erica! I did just that. lol I'll go back to it later.
