This morning I attended Gus Mayer's Spring Preview Blogger Breakfast.
A lot of Birmingham's most fabulous bloggers were in attendance.
As usual for Spring '15, florals will most definitely be making an appearance.
The first look is Noir Sachin Babi cropped top and embroidered organza midi skirt. This look is right on trend for this season.
The other dress is a fit and flare neoprene dress from Erin Erin Fetherston. It seems that each season neoprene gets better. This one is gorgeous and this dress has so much movement.
Sewing details: Notice that exposed zippers aren't going anywhere. And I love the use of the grosgrain ribbon as a zipper facing. I've noticed this detail a lot and I plan on incorporating it soon.
I also like these two printed looks.
I also noticed a lot of mixed media pieces. I love the sporty chic look of these pieces. The mesh inserts keep these tops fun and can easily ago from day to night. This is something I might consider adding as well. Think about when a pattern calls for lace, mesh would be a great substitute.
Fringe is on everything and everywhere this season. Lots of it...
Or you can keep it subtle.
Even here in The Deep South, we wear leather all year. And this white leather dress is perfect to wear into summer. And a white perforated leather tote is a wonderful addition.
Another fabric that screamed out to me was gauze in boho hippy styles. My favorite is the modern tie-dye.
Now if only spring actually shows up!
Exactly! What a brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty great!
DeleteSounds like a great event, very exclusive! Were there any other bloggers there you can mention that your readers might recognise?
ReplyDeleteOn a style note, the floral neoprene frock is lovely. As for mesh, I think it is tricky to wear as it can look a bit dancehall string vest, but the garment held up on the left is a great example of mesh looking good in my opinion.
All the best

They are all tagged in the photo on the Gus Mayer Birmingham Facebook page.
DeleteI don't think mesh would be a problem for me. Those pieces were stunning and I'm searching for mesh currently!
Great event review. I like the sewing tips that you gave. One question, on the exposed zipper, how was the grosgrain ribbon applied?
ReplyDeleteKelly, it seems to be sewn in between the zipper tape and the lining. It basically just keeps the metal zipper from rubbing against you.
DeleteI have yet to try the neoprene. It's becoming more and more enticing
ReplyDeleteThat one looked kind of like a dull satin with stretch. It was very lightweight and not as thick as a lot of neoprene. And the dress was unlined and the seams were left unfinished. The neckline and armholes were bound.
DeleteFringe! Man, that comes in every color imaginable at Vogue Fabrics. I've been meaning to use it. Now is the time.
ReplyDeleteAnd mesh ---there's a cute neon green/cobalt blue/white version at same store mentioned above that I've been meaning to get. I better get on it before it's gone. I've seen mesh uses in pant front sections...and I totally want to do that. With a modesty panel of course. LOL
I'm really in love with the mesh.
DeleteI am in love with that neoprene floral dress and that fringe vest! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat vest was by LaMarque I believe. It was gorgeous!
DeleteMs. Erica, thanks again for another wonderful post! What a neat idea, having a breakfast in a department store showcasing spring fashion! I love, love, love that print dress on the right! Got to try and re-create that at some point this spring/summer! Thank you again for sharing this wonderful event!
