A floral print is the perfect way to evoke the spirit of summer and this dress is a perfect look for date night. I've mentioned before that I'm quite particular in selecting prints. And this is probably the boldest print I have in my closet. And that's why I chose to keep the accessories simple: very little jewelry (a watch, bracelet and a gold ring or tungsten rings) and a simple sandal, but a bright color pulled from the print.
I haven't worn this dress in forever. And honestly, it was because I was very conscious of my middle. There's no concealing in this dress and wearing a wide belt was out of the question with this busy print. But these days, I've been feeling a lot better about myself. I'm revisiting a lot of things in my closet that previously didn't fit or didn't "fit right".
Often, I read comments advising women to rid themselves of clothing that no longer fits. Well... maybe so. But if you have it in your head and your heart to make changes for the better, then shut down those naysayers, keep your clothes in your closet and put in the work! And before you know it, you'll be where you want to be. Maybe those people give out advice based on their on personal resolve. They don't know you or what you're willing to personally accomplish!
The dress is (OOP) McCall's 6348.
I have total print envy ... That fabric is divine (especially paired with scarlet shoes).

DeleteYour dress is gorgeous, it looks great on you too. And I totally agree on NOT throwing out clothes when they get a bit tight - the fact that I keep stuff is why I now have a great wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteThe same here Gabrielle! Thanks!
DeleteI really love the print of the fabric, it looks gorgeous on you. I have that pattern, the print gives it a totally different look. Very nice fabric choice.

Thanks LaToria!
DeleteVery pretty.
ReplyDeleteVery nice dress. I like the exposed zipper!
ReplyDeleteThanks Regina! I love an exposed zipper. I have to restrain myself from putting them on every dress! LOL
DeleteSo true, great advice. And this is a great dress!
ReplyDeleteThanks Krystina!
DeleteThat print is fantastic! The nice thing about bold prints is your eye doesn't settle in anyone place so you can smidge by if they get a little snug. However your rocking that dress!
ReplyDeleteThanks Treva!
DeleteThe dress is beautiful. The pictures are striking. You look beautiful. I fully agree with you on NOT throwing clothing away. RTW clothing and fabric are not as well made as they were in the past and we must keep what we make. It is better to put work into being healthier than to make clothing for a less than healthy self....speaking for myself. Plus I don't gain like a plus size model. I blow up like popcorn. ....don't know how to dress that nor do I get full satisfaction for all that work. {:-O
ReplyDeleteThanks Body Design! I totally agree!
DeleteYou are looking great and inspiring me to not give up!
ReplyDeleteNo, don't give up! Thanks Angela!
DeleteYou just look wonderful. Confident, sure and happy. Love it. I also am waiting for some VIVID Amy Butler fabric to arrive to make a dress. I will either love or hate it. Wish me success.
ReplyDeleteWishing you much! Thanks Karen!
DeleteFabulous dress and message about the closet. You are so right! But best of all you have this fantastic dress that looks sensational on you. I'm such a lover of prints ahd this one rocks. Does it have a bit of Lycra in it? once again I visit your blog but this time I just had to comment! I love this!
ReplyDeleteYes Laurie Lou, it is a lycra knit! Thanks!
DeleteVery pretty dress. I agree with you regarding clothing that has gotten a little tight. I put way to much effort in making my clothes. It is a decision to be healthy. Great post.

ReplyDeleteThanks Tanielle!
DeleteLove the exposed zipper! You really made it work.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of ambivalent about holding on to clothes that don't fit, and even holding on to clothes in general. Especially for those of us who sew, holding onto old makes for too long can block us from focusing on making and enjoying new pieces in the present and future! One of my greatest joys is giving away my gently worn clothes to Goodwill, so I can make/get new pieces that reflect where I am in my life as I grow and change.
It's wonderful to be altruistic and benevolent! I purge my closet twice a year and things that genuinely no longer work for me, go into the charitable donations pile. But I sew like I bought/buy clothing. I make "investment pieces". Thanks Makingtheflame!
DeleteGorgeous fabric and it looks great on you! What's that pattern number? There are five digits there.
