Review: McCall's 6707 | Two-toned Trousers!
10:00 PM
When I saw those two-toned Tibi pants come down the runway at Birmingham Fashion Week, I knew I'd be making a pair soon.
Two-toned black and white pants are trending hard for Spring 2013. Here are prime examples that I gathered from Pinterest.
For my pants, I used McCall's 6707 from NBC's Fashion Star - Season 1 contestant Kara Laricks.
I wanted my pants to be two-toned instead of a tuxedo-like pant. So I cut the entire back in black fabric instead of only the side panels. I added three inches to the length. I make the edgestitched creases because I've always liked that detail on pants. And I omitted the pockets, because I absolutely ABHOR pocket show-through on white pants. So it's not like I planned on putting my keys and cell phone in there anyway. So my pants look a little different than the pattern. What's point of sewing if you can't make it your own? But this is a great pattern to have for this style of pant.
I used a black and white stretch gabardine from Hancock Fabrics. It comes in red as well. I wish they had a greater variety of colors because this fabric was great to work with. It sews up like a woven but wears like a knit. These pants couldn't be anymore comfortable.
As soon as I find more fabric I like, I'll probably make these in different colors. Hmmm... I sure could use another pair of red pants...

DeleteGorgeous! Love what you did with the two-tone, and I agree, the fun of sewing is having the freedom to make-it-your-own! It looks like a really lovely pattern, I may have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sallie!

DeleteErica, I know you're not a fan of Vogue Fabrics BUT I was just there..and they have stretch garbardine in red, two different purples and a few other colors. Let me know if I can email you pics of what's on the floor in the Evanston store with close-ups of the tags if you decide to order. Happy to help in whatever way I can.
ReplyDeletefwiw, I've never sewn with garbardine...now you've got my intrigued!
Whoa! I'm not a fan of Vogue Fabrics??? Where did you pull that from?
DeleteYour's are the best rendition of this trend I've seen so far. Makes me wanna give it a try when others have left me saying, "Hmmm???". :o)

You should give it a go. Thanks!
DeleteAgain, you have given me a reason to keep learning to sew. I could have sworn you were going to really high end places with some pattern I could never find. But to know you went to Hancock and this is a McCall pattern that I have already. WOW...what and inspiration for a new sewer.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!!
Yes, keep sewing. The more you do it, the better and easier it becomes. Thanks!
DeleteThose pants are HAWT!!! Love the look!!!

DeleteYou look amazing!! I love this look, but I couldn't think of it as wearable, at least not until I saw your post!
ReplyDeleteNon-wearable? Rubbish! Thanks Nettie!
DeleteGorgeous pants! Impeccable work, as usual.
ReplyDeleteThanks Levone!
DeleteToo Sharp!!!! Looks Fantastic. You got my thinking!!!
ReplyDeleteThose pants are fabulous! I too love the stretch gabardine from Hancock's. I found it in fuschia pink one time. I was so happy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shelly! I would be thrilled if I could find it in fuchsia.

DeleteI am soooooo copying you on these pants! Love, love, love the B&W and I just purchased the pattern! BTW...of all you peplums, that black one is my fav! IJS!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood for you Tracie, this is a great pattern! Thanks.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGreat look! I have this pattern and would like to make it with a print omitting the contrasting side panels. Any suggestions without losing the width across the hips/thighs?
There are so many pants patterns available. Why put yourself through unnecessary alterations and modifications when you don't have to?!
DeleteErica, I keep coming back to your version of these pants as inspiration. I have to ask though, did you have to make any waistband adjustments for this pattern? You mentioned only your usual length addition...I'll be making these but with khaki instead of white. Seriously love your version with the leather top and blue heels!
ReplyDeleteI really like your version. I have that same pattern and made a tribal print pant with it. I see you did not use the side panels, did you have to add extra inches to the sides to make it fit or you just left it out? I will make a blue and black version! Thanks in advance for your answer!
ReplyDeleteI DID use the side panels. I stated that in post. Good luck with yours and thanks Judith Dee!
DeleteErica!! You are encouraging my sewing addiction! :) Beautiful job and loved seeing you'd made this pattern as I have this pattern too and was considering giving it a try, but leary due to having major issues on the last 2 pairs of pants I've sewn. Thanks for posting the review!
