BFW Night 2 - What I Wore!
3:45 PM
Last night was my second night heading out to enjoy Birmingham Fashion Week, and this is what I wore.
One of the greatest things about living in a "driving city" is that coats are optional. I can park nearby and make a mad dash to my venue while still warm from my car. So this lightweight blazer was enough even in 38 degree weather.
This is my second version of Simplicity 2446. And I made some great changes that makes this pattern a "TNT" winner for me.
- I lengthened the jacket by 1".
- I lengthened the sleeves by 1". Even though they hit at my wrist bones, I feel they could've been a smidge longer.
- I omitted the tiny, useless pockets. But kept the faux pocket flaps. This type of detail bothers some, but not me. Sure, beautifully made welt pockets one a blazer is a wonderful detail (that I'll probably be making soon), but not necessary for me. It's not like I'm going to be shoving my keys and cell in there anytime soon.
- I tapered in the back and also the side seams.
- I created a center back seam and added a vent.
- I changed the front to a single button closure.
- And I added a contrasting piping to the lining.
For the fabric, I used a cobalt blue gabardine from my stash. And for the lining, matching crepe back satin.
Here is a closeup of the brushed gold dome buttons.
The pant are Simplicity 2562. They were never really the length I wanted them to be for a leg that wide, so I altered them. They were almost in the Goodwill pile, but I thought that would be such a lost. So I just changed the leg.

DeleteYou look so cute and Springtime! I love the colors and the hair in a bun. But I would have screamed if you had thrown away those nice yellow pants. Even with the flared legs they were still sharp!
ReplyDeleteOnefromphilly, it was one of those moments that I look back on and think, I could've ended up kicking myself! Thanks!
DeleteI think your total outfit is gorgeous. I love cobolt and yellow together. I think tapering the leg totally saved a great pair of pants.
