Review: Vogue 8815 | Peplum top!

One of this season's biggest trends is the peplum.  And the most versatile and easy-to-wear piece is the peplum top.  What makes the peplum top so special is that depending on how it's styled, it can be casual or chic.  So far, I've already made two!  Let me introduce you to my first version:
I've been coveting a (faux) leather peplum top since I started seeing the fall garments make their debut back around July/August.
I used Vogue 8815, view A.  I had leftover faux leather from a couple of projects I'd done and knew I'd have to make one in this fabric!  I just love the juxtaposition of the leather and feminine silhouette.
The only alteration I had to make to the pattern was to add an inch of length at the waist.  And of course I didn't have quite enough of my leftover fabric to complete the project.  THIS is why I hate "scraps"... never, EVER enough to complete a project!  So I cut the upper back in a black ponteroma knit... also part of my "scrap" stash!
Wearing:  top: Vogue 8815; shorts: Old Navy; sandals: DV by Dolce Vita 'Archer' Sandal; fedora: Forever 21; owl necklace: similar to THIS and THIS; purse: Urban Expressions; leopard print belt: similar to THIS.

  2. Fabulous. Great thinking on the fly to use the ponte roma for the upper back. I just would have thrown it in a bag in frustration. You're always so inspiring.

  5. I have been stalking this pattern since it came out. None of the stores will acknowledge its existence. I already have the fabric ear marked for this top. It looks great on you and I hope it will one day look great on me!

    1. Serenity, I bought it during the last Joanns sale. Sometimes you have to hold the associates at scissor point and make them bring them from the back! LOL. Thanks!

  7. I like to use knit on the backs of tops for ease of wearing, so I'm sure doing so made your top much more comfortable. Happy accidents are a blessing. :o) I love, love, love your styling of the top...so classy...and that's not always the case when wearing leather!

  20. Erica this top is great.... I wanted to make one in suede to match my tall suede boots for this coming fall... Now that I see the leather looks good I'm sure the suede will work too:)

  21. I love it! Very on-trend. Do you have any suggestions for working in leather?

  22. My suggestions are to use binder clips instead of pins; a teflon foot on your machine; a leather needle for real leather; a microtex needle for faux leather. And believe it or not, it can be pressed with a dry iron and a pressing cloth. Thanks Janice!

  23. Love the leather with the animal print belt. Did you cut the back smaller, seeing as how you were using a knit?

  24. No, Princess I didn't. But I just took it in at the center back.

  25. I love this peplum top! I saw the white version first. I remember seeing a black leather one on Pinterest. Where did you get your black faux leather? It is lovely. Like how you used the black ponte knit for the back. Great save.
