This is the next installment of my "Brightly Hued Pants" craze. I have a board dedicated to them on Pinterest! I picked up this yellow bull denim from JoAnn's during the same shopping trip in which I bought the hot pink. I was really pleased that after I prewashed in hot water, very little pigment faded.
I was inspired by these pants from Dsquared²:
This is an "Amazing Fit" pattern. There are pieces for slim, average and curvy fit. You pick your size and fit option based on your measurements. The ease is very generous as usual with these patterns. I picked the size 16 curvy. I probably could have gone with the average. I'm always fearful when sewing pants with pockets that I'll get gaping. These pants were very full through the hips. Not to mention that the legs are EXTREMELY wide. For the size 16 curvy, the leg opening measured 28 inches. That's not the look I wanted. I ended up tapering them down to 20 inches. I didn't have to lengthen because I just used the version for the cuffed hem. I probably should have made Simplicity 2860... I would have saved myself a lot of altering.
I can't really say whether or not the directions are good because I didn't use them. I've made enough pants to have my own construction method down pat. And I must say that the waistband on these pants are superb!
And I decided to pair these pants with my Missoni for Target sweater. What I love about this sweater is that the zigzag stripes are vertical instead of horizontal. I think that was the fear of a lot of people... well at least the ones that I read that criticized the brand. Overall, I'm happy with the pants and how well it worked with the sweater. Perfect look for our mild Fall temperatures!

ReplyDeleteThe sweater sets it off!
ReplyDeleteFantastic fit.
ReplyDeleteI would never have considered bright yellow pants, much as I do like yellow. You make them look wonderful, and easy to wear! I would never think of paring them with a graphic, multi-coloured sweater, but again, it looks fab! I love all the practical inspiration you bring us, Erica!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great outfit! It's nice to see some of the Missoni on a person and not just on eBay. So what color is next in your brightly hued pants journey?
ReplyDeleteI just love this, you look great. Also want to thank you for your latest round of great everyday clothes. Bringing style into what real people wear everyday, showing us that fashion lives there too, is what amounts to a real public service in my books. Too many of us sew for work or to go out and just wear the same old for normal days. This is great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love the pant it really makes the outfit pop.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Great outfit... Awesome colors.
ReplyDeleteWonderful outfit, Erica. I need to go to Joann's to look and buy some of this denim.

ReplyDeleteI wish I could go to Joann's, ours is a victim of H. Irene.

ReplyDeleteThe outfit is awesome!!! I would never think of wearing yellow pants. You really have me looking at color in a whole new light.
ReplyDeleteThey look great!
ReplyDeleteThe pants look great good job BTW your hair looks good nice job on the new do:)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you look in these; and you styled them nicer than the way they have on the model.
ReplyDeleteI made a dress out of that same fabric. I love your style and you make beautiful clothes.
ReplyDeleteI love your page, every time i visit, the look of the clothes you've made is so crisp and seem so effortless. My question for you is, do you ever draft your own patterns? I notice that in your reviews you say that you didn't follow the instructions or barely glanced at them. I'm a beginner sewer so most of the time my eyes are glued to the directions and i get so frustrated when i can't understand something.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel the need to draft my own patterns. There is always a commercial pattern that I can shape into what I want it to be. And if I'm making pants, there is no reason to look at the instructions. I've made enough pair to know how it's done. After YEARS and YEARS of sewing, you'll get to that point too.
ReplyDeleteI love that sweater and your pants are awesome, as per usual. You're so talented.

Love these pants and your entire look! Your hair looks great!
ReplyDeleteHi Erica, rather late to to the party on this post I'm afraid... I've been longing for some yellow trousers for a while, but haven't been able to find any suitable ones in the shops so I figured I'd make some - and remembered yours for inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAll your brightly coloured trousers are great, they look so good on you and I love the way you style them. I have a question about the denim though - is it stretch? If not, how do you find the wearing comfort with quite fitted trousers? Thanks :)
They're not tight so stretch wasn't needed. Had they been a jean or a skinny pants, that would've been a different story. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCool, thanks Erica!
