Plissé is one of the hottest fabric trends of the moment. It was seen all over the runways for Spring/Summer 2011. For those of you that are unfamiliar:
- A fabric with a puckered or pleated effect resulting from printing the fabric with caustic soda. The printed part of the fabric shrinks, causing the unprinted part to pucker.plis·sé/plēˈsā/ -
Some of my favorite looks are from Lanvin - Spring 2011.
Lanvin Plisse One Shoulder Top - $1,255 & Plisse Pencil Skirt - $1,620 - Neiman Marcus
Red pleated crepe de chine - $4.95/yd., Denver Fabrics
Lanvin Plisse Kimono Gown - $2,115, Neiman Marcus
Dark periwinkle pleated crepe de chine - $4.95/yd., Denver Fabrics
As you can see, it drapes BEAUTIFULLY. The pleats run from selvage to selvage. The fabric is 60" wide and it can be cut cross grain if you want your pleats to run vertically and the selvage can be used in lieu of a hem. I'm still deciding what I'm going to make with my fabric, but I'll be using it SOON!
That Neiman Marcus dress is breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteI have or had some of that fabric...somewhere :)
ReplyDeleteWOW that is beautiful fabric!! Where do you look to get your fashion info on the trends?
ReplyDeleteI read! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks for the link to where they're available at Denver Fabrics! I've been looking for some yardage on and off for a while now.
ReplyDeleteI have a red top in that material. Beautiful, can't wait to see what you make:)
ReplyDeleteI have similar fabric that's been sitting in my stash for over a year because I have no idea what to sew with it...I'm eager to see what you make!!!
ReplyDeleteI am SOLD on this fabric (!!!)
ReplyDeleteNice new blog header! I love the pleated crepe de chine, especially the periwinkle. It makes me think of Fortuny and clean simple toga-like lines. Something clasped at one shoulder? Looking forward to seeing what you make.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Did I say blog header? I meant great new FORMAT! Very clean and elegant-looking.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is beautiful, but you are exuding an evil power over me and made me purchase yardage in both colors of the crepe de chine -- even though I have no idea what I would ever use it for... Bad blogger, bad blogger. If I had only seen the swatches on the Denver Fabrics site, I never would have ordered them. Your photos have better color and more detail than those on the sale site. Again - you are exerting power and making me spend money. Bad blogger, bed blogger :)
ReplyDeleteKeep posting the lovely fashions you create.
Cheers,
Lunachance
Thanks Mrs. Micawber! It was time for a change! Just hate I lost ALL of my previous comments in the process.
ReplyDeleteLunachance,
ReplyDeleteI've learned from shopping with Denver Fabrics that it's best to go by the description than the picture. Even though (on my monitor) it looked burgundy, the description said red and I took a chance. And my photos are really accurate!
That fabric is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove the new look of your blog! MOm said she was proud of you for your recent accomplishments! She said she can tell folks she know where your blog is when you make it big lol.
LOL! That is so funny! I get creeped out when someone recognizes me from my blog. So "making it big" is pretty unthinkable! Just give me the cash! LOL Tell your mom thanks!
ReplyDeleteLOL. I do too. ESPECIALLY if they don't comment and I don't "know" them lol. It's weird. Seriously though I wish you THE absolute best!
ReplyDeleteThank You!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw your new format I said aloud (talking to myself), "How beautiful!" Sorry you lost your comments. I'm anxious to see what you create with the plisse. You are extremely talented!
ReplyDeletethis fabric looks so itchy! is it?? lol
ReplyDeleteAshley, why would I want some itchy fabric.
ReplyDeleteGirl, bye...
Love the fabric and love your choice of patterns. Everything you make always comes out so beautiful and looks like you purchased it in a boutique instead of being home sewn. I think V1086 might like beautiful in one of these fabrics.
ReplyDeleteKathyann,
ReplyDeleteThat's a great suggestion. In fact, I've already made that dress in a cobalt blue silk crepe de chine! LOL Great minds...
Beautiful fabric can't wait to see what you make with it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric, very different. I'd also like to see what you come up with, I'm sure it'll be lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. Th fabric is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous - love the periwinkle. I must admit though, I wouldn't really know where to start with sewing that fabric! Can't wait to see your beautiful creation though!

ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued. Have you found that fabric but with different pleat widths? The neiman marcus dress seems to have larger, more random sized pleats. Also there could be some gathering at the waist.
ReplyDeleteI haven't found any... it was hard enough finding this! But I have seen RTW garments with different widths.
ReplyDeleteThank you for defining plisse. Now I'm going to use that word next time I see the fabric and impress people who don't know. LOL :-)
ReplyDeleteThat red Lavin skirt and top would be FIRE in your red material. I bet that you could make that without the pattern!
I've already peeped this! Girl...can you say maxi skirt! LOL! That's what I'm feelin'. I can't wait to see your vision!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds Kim, great minds! That's what I was thinking as well. I know one will be a cocktail dress because I have an event next week and the other will be a maxi skirt!
ReplyDeletei just bought some almost exactly like this but in a peach colour!! can;t wat to see your creation.
ReplyDeleteAllison
I love the Lavin evening gown. Am I right in thinking this fabric doesn't need ironing?
ReplyDeleteI will try to find this type of fabric locally! Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you make with these fabrics. They are beautiful.
