After working on a project for 16 days, I need some instant gratification... so I'm back to crocheting for this project. This was my Crochet Olympics project that I didn't have time to work on so I got going on this yesterday. This is the Zip Up Jacket (front & back) from So Simple Crochet. This is going to be a really easy project because the body is worked in one piece. Any time I don't have to do any hand sewing is good for me. I decided not to go with the Noro stripe yarn and do mine in a very spring white. The thing about this project that excites me is I get to install a zipper for the first time! I'm not sure if I want to do this by hand or on the machine. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

The race has been run. I may not have won, but I did finish and I'm proud of myself. Now, I'm ready for a
into my gym routine. I really need to stop blaming the extra 15 pounds I'm carrying on good holiday eatin'. I was trying on the sweater checking the fit. I look in the mirror at the back... I thought the sweater was puckering. It wasn't puckering! It was BACKFAT!!!
Okay, here are my choices: (1) Wear it and not worry about the fat that's poking out around my bra. (2) Wear a body shaping camisole and hide the fat and live in denial. (3) Get my lazy ass up and hit the elliptical machine for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. I like #3... if only I could knit while doing this.
Ran into a minor setback. I am some what of a perfectionist when it comes to crocheting and knitting. I decided that initially, the bottom ribbing was a bit too tight where it sat on top of my childbearing hips and it really looked like there was going to be a riding up problem. Frogged it back about 2 inches and did it over on the US5's. Much better.
I'm going to finish this one on schedule, but the crocheted sweater just ain't gonna happen for the crochet olympics. I'm still going to make, because I like and I plan to start it right after I finish this one. Geesh, I know how Sasha feels! Guess, I'll be bringing home the silver too...
After being so terribly disgusted with all of the major crochet magazines and fugly ass fun fur patterns and pattern books that cater only to the novice crocheter, this book is quite refreshing (not a freakin' doily in sight!). Leave it to Debbie to do it up right! These patterns are wearable and trendy.
I love the accessories such as clutch bags (pg. 137), the fat-bottom bag (pg. 155) and the 'ruffled corset belt' (pg. 231). I also like the 'Cupcake' top (pg. 165), maybe in not such a pastel-like color; short 'n sweet shrug (pg. 169); I love, love, love the 'prepster' jacket (pg. 191), it'll look great witht at pair of dark wash jeans. My son has already gone wild of the 'jolly roger' sweater (pg. 199); and my first project from this book will most likely be the 'unseamly sweater' (pg. 203), which is my favorite project. Oh, I must mention the 'froufrou' sweater (pg. 211); the 'baroque' jacket (pg. 217). In my opinion, this book is well worth every penny!
Sorry about the terrible lighting... it's late and everyone is gone to bed and I had to do a timed self-portrait in front of my bathroom mirror with the camera on top of an overturned wastebasket... creative huh? Well, I've finally gotten to the part where I join both sides -- YEAH, no more purling (for now). You can't even imagine the elation on my face when I finally got to the sleeves. By then, I atleast felt like I was making some sort of progress. I had my doubts for a while, but I just may finish this and be able to go on to my next competition (The Crochet Olympics). We will see...

Knitting Project:
Ok, here's the deal: I casted on around 4 pm CST on Friday. Knitted well into the night. Knitted a little on Saturday, the kids play basketball and had to go to games... knitted during halftime, in between quarters and the times they sat out. So far, I've completed around 7", only 5 1/2 more to go before the sleeves. Can you say, "Tired hands"? The crochet project will be quite easy since I crochet a helluva lot faster than I knit. More to come...

Pattern: Ballet T-Shirt from Loop-d-Loop
Yarn: Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece (3 skeins)
Needles: Size 15US (10 mm) 24" Circular
Modifications:
I made minor modifications to this top which I thought was really cute and quite similar to the very popular Picovoli, (which I also plan to make) with a much larger gauge. I must first say that even for a newbie knitter such as myself, this was a very quick and easy knit. I could tell from the picture on the model that it was a bit more cropped than I'd prefer, so I added 2 extra center increases. Lightly blocked... perfect fit.

Pattern: Minisweater by Glampyre
Yarn: Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece (4 skeins) 2 strands held together
Needles:
Size 10US (6.00 mm) 24" Circular
Size 10US (6.00 mm) DPNs
Modifications:
Opted out of the puffed sleeves by eliminating the extra sleeve inceases beginning on Row 15. Continued in normal raglan increases until the increase seam measured about 10" from the neck edge to the underarm. Went with a double-breast closure with hook closure on the inside.
EGO TRIPPING
- Nikki Giovanni
I was born in the Congo.
I walked to the Fertile Crescent and built the sphinx.
I designed a pyramid so tough that a star
that only glows every one hundred years falls
into the center giving divine perfect light.
I am bad.
I sat on the throne
drinking nectar with Allah.
I got hot and sent an ice age to Europe
to cool my thirst.
My oldest daughter is Nefertiti.
The tears from my birth pains
created the Nile.
I am a beautiful woman.
I gazed on the forest and burned
out the Sahara desert.
With a packet of goat's meat
and a change of clothes,
I crossed it in two hours.
I am a gazelle so swift,
so swift you can't catch me.
For a birthday present when he was three,
I gave my son Hannibal an elephant.
He gave me Rome for mother's day.
My strength flows ever on.
My son Noah built an ark and
I stood proudly at the helm
as we sailed on a soft summer day.
I turned myself into myself and was Jesus.
Men intone my loving name.
All praises all praises,
I am the one who would save.
I sowed diamonds in my back yard.
My bowels deliver uranium.
The filings from my fingernails are
semi-precious jewels.
On a trip north,
I caught a cold and blew
my nose giving oil to the Arab world.
I am so hip even my errors are correct.
I sailed west to reach east and had to round off
the earth as I went.
The hair from my head thinned and gold was laid
across three continents.
I am so perfect so divine so ethereal so surreal.
I cannot be comprehended except by my permission.
I mean...I...can fly
like a bird in the sky...
