Kanye is my hero!
7:22 PMHe took the words right out of my mouth! On Friday night, Kanye West surprised the millions of viewers who tuned in to "A Concert for Hurricane Relief" which aired live on the networks of NBC. While joined onstage with actor Mike Myers, Kanye refused to read the teleprompter and expressed his unadulterated disgust for the way the media has poorly portrayed the black people in New Orleans. He stated, "I hate the way we are portrayed in the media. If you see a black family, it says they're looting. See a white family, they are looking for food". Kanye was refering to the this caption:
He lashed out against President George W. Bush and the government for racism against African-American survivors of Hurricane Katrina by stating: "George Bush doesn't care about black people". Kanye suggested that the delays in getting relief to the people of New Orleans was delibrate and that America was set up to help black people and the less fortunate as slow as possible.

AMEN. That statement couldn't have been more true,a long with everything else he said. It's amazing how black people are portrayed in tis country and good for him for speaking up. Someone needs to be a leader because it sure isn't going to be our self-proclaimed C+ president.
ReplyDeleteGetting off the soapbox now...
Kanya is amazing, and not afraid to tell it like it is, and I respect him for that. He refused to stand up there and be a puppet! I saw that article and I was of course not surprised how we were portrayed, I'm just glad that someone brought it to the light.
ReplyDeleteThat article was absolutely appalling. It never ceases to amaze me how the media can "hype" up ongoings.
ReplyDeleteWHY IS IT THAT EVERYTIME THERE IS A DISASTER, THERE IS ALWAYS SOME ENTERTAINER THAT TRYS TO TURN IT INTO A RACE ACT. THIS ISNT ABOUT WHO IS WHITE, BLACK, BROWN, GREEN, YELLOW, WHATEVER, ITS ABOUT HELPING PEOPLE PERIOD, SO THIS SO CALLED ENTERTAINER NEEDS TO GET OVER HIMSELF, AND I REALLY DONT THINK THAT MR. BUSH SENT THE HURRICANE TO NEW ORLEANS, HE DIDNT PLAN THIS DISASTER ON PURPOSE. WE NEED TO ALL WORK TOGETHER AND NOT PIT PEOPLE AGAINST EACH OTHER.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't plan to blow the hurricane over New Orleans, but when you consider the history of a city whose corruption has allowed them to become one large toxic dump, a state where David Duke would be bold enough to run for governor, a country that once considered Dr. Martin Luther King the "Most dangerous Negro in America" (I was a young girl, then), and the only ethnic group where prejudice has lasted into the 7th generation–what do you expect?
ReplyDeleteSome of my friends who were escaping the flood actually SAW whites being helped first while blacks were being turned away. This is one of the reasons why folks starting taking what they needed.
Kanye was not pitting anyone against anyone, so stop taking it personally. That is part of the problem. Our government has a responsibility to ALL of its citizens regardless of color; American history however, has proven the opposite, which probably includes you as well, economically, despite your priviledge.
Would you be upset if "some entertainer" spoke out against a gross injustice against you or yours?
Can I double that?
